Ingredient Decoder.
Paste any ingredient list and see what each ingredient does, with a dermatology doctor’s flags for pregnancy, pigmentation, acne-prone and sensitive skin, plus red alerts for mercury and hidden steroids.
The Decoder explains ingredients; it cannot tell you whether a product suits your skin, how much of each ingredient it contains, or diagnose any condition. Flags marked “limited evidence” are cautious guides, not rules. Beta: database under medical review.
How to read a label
Four rules that beat any marketing claim
Order matters
Ingredients are listed from most to least, down to about 1%. If a “hero” ingredient is near the end, there is very little of it.
Names hide things
Look for steroid names such as clobetasol or betamethasone, and mercury names such as calomel, especially in “fairness” creams.
Fragrance is optional
Parfum, essential oils and allergens like limonene add scent, not benefit. Skip them if your skin is sensitive.
