Brown Skin Hub
Dermatology for South Asian skin.
Brown skin has its own strengths and its own challenges: it tans and ages more slowly, but it is more likely to develop dark marks after inflammation, melasma and keloid scars. This hub gathers what you need to know.
Dark marks after spots
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can outlast the acne that caused it. Treating the inflammation early is the best prevention.
Melasma
A long-term condition driven by sun, visible light, heat and hormones. Control is realistic; quick cures are not.
Sunscreen without the cast
Why sunscreen matters for brown skin, and how to find one you will actually wear every day.
Laser and peel safety
Which treatments carry extra risk in darker skin, and the questions that protect you.
Keloids & raised scars
Why some scars grow beyond the wound, and why early treatment matters.
Dark underarms, neck & eyes
From friction to acanthosis nigricans, which can signal insulin resistance and deserves a medical check.
Never use “whitening” creams without a prescription
Some unregulated fairness creams sold in Pakistan have been found to contain mercury or strong steroids. They can cause thinning skin, stretch marks, acne, worsening pigmentation and, with mercury, harm to the kidneys and nerves. If a cream works “too fast”, be suspicious and ask a doctor.
